After winning the NBA Championship in very convincing fashion over one of the best young teams in the west (Oklahoma City), Miami forward Chris Bosh told WQAM Friday that he doesn’t believe his squad is the best team on paper.
“The Lakers, I think, right now, I mean on paper, they probably have the best team in the West and probably the league right now,” he said, per the Sun-Sentinel’s Ira Winderman. “On paper. I’m saying on paper. But it’s a lot, a lot, it’s a long season. And the best team always isn’t the one who starts out the season as the best team.
“We know we’re the champs, but we have to start off from scratch. We have a lot of chemistry building to do. And we have to come out there and we have to start over. We know favorites and all that stuff really doesn’t matter.”
There’s no question the Lakers are going to be a hungry team in 2012-13. Kobe is always a big time competitor and would definitely like to add another title before he calls it career. Steve Nash who is really on his last leg would probably kill to get at least one NBA title before he’s done while Pau Gasol would like to further prove he can win with the Lakers.
The edition of Dwight Howard and loss of Andrew Bynum doesn’t necessarily improve LA from there on out. In fact it might be a regression for the Lakers given Howard’s immaturity both on and off the basketball court.
Last season the Miami Heat showed us more than that they were the best team in the NBA, they showed us a team that vastly matured since losing to the Dallas Mavericks the previous season.
