Washington (14-12-1) @ Detroit (18-8-0)
Detroit looked to continue their perfect streak atop the West against the Capitals, who have been playing shaky as of late after a good start.
The only goal of the first period came early, less than five minutes in, Todd Bertuzzi (7) scored (A: Datsyuk, White).
In the second however, a flurry of goals came consecutively, and all from one side. At 7:07 Datsyuk (9) scored (A: Filppula, Bertuzzi), ten seconds later, Danny Cleary (9) (A: Emmerton, Smith). And then fifty seconds later Drew Miller (4) (A: Datsyuk, White). To make it a 5-0 lead going into the third, Carlo Colaiacovo (3) tallied one as well with 3 minutes left (A: White, Nyquist).
In the third however, the Capitals would try to surge back, with goals from Brooks Laich (6) (A: Hamrlik) and Niklas Backstrom (5) (A: Wolski, Hamrlik) at 8:18 and 15:27. However it wouldn’t matter, as again, Valtteri Filppula (12) has been a workhorse for the team, scoring with 2 minutes left (A: Datsyuk, Smith).
