BNHL 11/6: How Swede it is! Edmonton @ Detroit

Tuesday, November 6th

Edmonton (6-5-0) @ Detroit (7-5-0)

Edmonton looks to continue with a second win over Detroit in as many games, as they move out East, and Detroit begins a homestand.

In the first period, they looked to do just that, as five minutes into play, Sam Gagner (7) (Assists: Hall, Horcoff) scored on a powerplay from a Niklas Kronwall Major penalty for elbowing. It was not however a Game Misconduct.

After the expiration of the powerplay, and 5 more minutes later, Todd Bertuzzi (4) scored to even up the game at 1-1. (Assists: Datsyuk, Colaiacovo). It wouldn’t end there, as Valtteri Filppula (5) put in his fifth (Assists: White, Datsyuk) to take the lead a minute later to end the period.

The second period saw both teams settle into a groove, with chances back and forth, but no goals were allowed by either goaltender.

In the third however, Edmonton struck to tie it up with team scoring leader Jordan Eberle (8) (Assists: NugentHopkins, Whitney).

Luckily for the Red Wings (and because of the GM listening to the fans), young gun Gustav Nyquist (1) scored the game winner, with assists from Zetterberg and Kronwall.

DET 3 – 2 EDM

Three Stars:

  1. Pavel Datsyuk (C) – 0G, 2A, 2 HITS, 1S, +/- 0
  2. Jimmy Howard (G) – 2.00 GAA, .920 SV%, 25 SA
  3. Valtteri Filppula (LW) – 1G, 0A, 2 HITS, 6S, +1

Notes: Kronwall had 9 penalty minutes (5 – Elbowing, 4 – High Sticking). Nyquist, despite being the call up and rookie, is showing things fans might love: He led the team in shots with 7. EDM LW Ben Eager was injured from the Kronwall elbow, has a broken collarbone, will be out 2-3 months. DET D Jakub Kindl injured his foot during the game, but is considered day-to-day.
