11/21/12
Tonight came down to blowouts, or shutouts. With only a few games being relatively “close”.
St. Louis (6-10-1) @ Detroit (11-8-0)
The first period started out with a bang, as the Blues quickly took the lead with a goal from their Captain, David Backes (4) (A: Perron, Oshie). It wouldn’t stop there either, as four minutes later Chris Stewart (3) pushed them to a 2-0 lead. A horrible start for the Wings, but they would get some redemption, and it would be with less than a minute in the period by Drew Miller (3) (A: Samuelsson, Kronwall).
In the second, it would take six minutes for one of the goaltenders to blink, and it would be Halak. Niklas Kronwall (3) blasted one past him with a big slap shot (A: Zetterberg, White).
In the third, it would be contested for 15 minutes until someone broke through, sadly it was the Blues, as David Backes (5) scored again to give them the final lead they would need (A: Oshie).

Detroit (12-8-0) @ Florida (9-9-1)
As opposed to the other night, Detroit definitely came out ready to go this game. They came out strong in the first, and outshot the Panthers 16-9. It worked for them too, as 7 minutes in, Mikael Samuelsson (1) scored his first of the year. (A: Helm, Ericsson). 10 minutes later, Henrik Zetterberg (8) put his mark on the game, as he has all year (A: Nyquist, Cleary). However 30 seconds later, Florida would make it interesting. Tomas Fleischmann (6), showed why the Wings should have kept him (A: Kuba, Mueller).
The second period showed the Panthers surge back, as Detroit was outshot 15-10.
The third period however, the Wings roared right back at Florida, with 2 minutes in, Zetterberg struck again (9) (A: Datsyuk, Kronwall). That would be all that was needed, despite more shot domination, totallying 37-27 Detroit.

Detroit (13-8-0) @ Tampa Bay (6-11-0)
The Wings looked to keep their road trip going well, and again, they got off slow after playing the night before. Tampa Bay outshot them 13-6 in the first, yet Detroit had the lead, at 16:18 in, Danny Cleary (6) scored on Lindback (A: Filppula, Nyquist).
In the second however, Detroit bounced back and outshot the Bolts 15-6, and potted two goals, Jordan Tootoo (3) (A: Zetterberg) at 9:48, and from Mikael Samuelsson (2) (A: Miller, Kindl).
The punishment wouldn’t end there, as Kronwall (4) at 5:12 (A: Zetterberg, Nyquist) and Datsyuk (7) at 16:39 (A: Zetterberg) to ice the game. Jimmy Howard got the shutout.

Two minutes later, Helm (5) poured it on more (A: Colaiacovo). It wouldn’t last though, at 7 minutes into the period, Keith Yandle (1) scored his first of the year (A: Gordon).
In the third, the perennial captain, Shane Doan (3) scored to make it close (A: Vermette). Bertuzzi (5) regained the two goal lead though (A: Filppula, Datsyuk) to force Phoenix to the brink in the game. But they wouldn’t go quietly, as playoff hero Mikkael Boedker (4) would bring them close, but they couldn’t close it out (A: Rozsival, Gordon).
