Prior to Detroit’s Monday night matchup with the Cleveland Indians, Tigers manager Jim Leyland said he was “worried” about third baseman Wilson Betemit’s knee injury and his availability for the remainder of the series. If Betemit cannot go at anytime during the remainder two games of the regular season this would make it status for the ALDS (which begins Friday) very uncertain.
Betemit has been trying to recover from a strained knee.
In other injury news, Leyland doesn’t believe infielder Carlos Guillen will be available for the ALDS after suffering a strained calf against Oakland during their last road swing. It is believed that because of his injuries Guillen will be left off the postseason roster.
