On this episode of Make City Make Spence, Adam Hernandez and Sean Spence examine Detroit City FC’s frustrating scoreless draw against Loudoun United—and whether Le Rouge can rebound against the Eastern Conference’s runaway leader.

Detroit hit the woodwork twice and held Loudoun to just 0.36 expected goals, but a defensive-heavy starting lineup struggled to produce without Darren Smith. Adam and Sean debate the decision to rest Detroit’s leading scorer, the second-half tactical changes that introduced some badly needed attacking intent and whether Ates Diouf’s continued bad luck has officially become a full-blown hex.

Carlos Herrera’s eighth clean sheet receives its flowers, while Michael Bryant’s return to the bench offers some encouragement amid injury updates that could end the seasons of Rafa Mentzingen and Connor Rutz.

Attention then turns to Tampa Bay’s visit to Keyworth. The Rowdies arrive with 44 points, 38 goals, 10 clean sheets and an unbeaten road record. Is Saturday an opportunity for Detroit to prove it belongs among the USL Championship’s legitimate contenders—or a harsh reality check waiting to happen? Sean predicts a 2–1 Detroit victory. Adam sees the same score going Tampa’s way, albeit with Smith scoring lucky No. 13.

The guys close by discussing Detroit’s attacking needs before the roster freeze, whether the club should add another striker or winger and what embracing a “big-club mentality” should actually look like during a playoff push.

Hosted by Adam Hernandez and Sean Spence.
The Crew returns to the tunnel and immediately spends valuable recording time deciding what Europeans call American football, questioning the NFL’s overseas ambitions and proposing a 20-round, all-time Detroit City FC fantasy draft destined to end with someone selecting an MPSL backup fullback from 2013. Serious preparation continues to define Channel 4:51.

Jam survives Tulsa, oppressive humidity and life as a self-described dehydrated queen. Rhys Williams’ family carries the away section, Le Rouge finally beats FC Tulsa and Darren Smith supplies another winning goal.

Then Detroit returns home and lays an egg against Loudoun United. The Crew examines the scoreless draw, the crowded Eastern Conference table and DCFC’s continuing dependence on Smith. Detroit owns one of the league’s best defenses, yet no teammate has scored more than two league goals. Potential loan help receives a cautious welcome following several forgettable attempts from past seasons.

First-place Tampa Bay visits Keyworth next, producing predictions ranging from a 2-0 Rowdies victory to a bold 1-0 Detroit win. Haruki Yamazaki continues getting kicked across every USL stadium, Carlos Herrera keeps Detroit alive and everyone searches for a secondary scoring option.

Jam also shares details about the NGS Cares clothing drive supporting Sundays in Cass, plus an upcoming Freedom House community cleanup. The shoutouts cover Frank Lampard, Coventry City’s mysterious Detroit connection, a 1970 match at Keyworth, the missing Dennis, the women’s Black Arrow winner, Garret and Tunnel Talk’s growing audience in Burma.

It’s Tunnel Talk: serious soccer analysis after twelve minutes of pointy-ball discourse and several avoidable detours.

Detroit City FC controlled possession, won the corner battle and struck the woodwork twice, but Le Rouge managed only one shot on target during a 0-0 draw with Loudoun United at Keyworth Stadium.

Adam Hernandez examines Detroit’s lack of finishing without Darren Smith, Ates Diouf’s second-half impact, Callum Montgomery’s Man of the Match performance, Carlos Herrera’s eighth clean sheet and the upcoming showdown with first-place Tampa Bay.

Was this one point earned or two points dropped?

Gold smoke rolled from the supporter section and across the field during Detroit City FC’s scoreless draw with Loudoun United at Keyworth Stadium.

On this episode of Make City Make Spence, Sean Spence and Adam Hernandez break down Detroit City FC’s gritty 1-0 road victory over FC Tulsa.

Le Rouge battled oppressive conditions, conceded nearly two-thirds of the possession and still delivered one of its most disciplined defensive performances of the season. Sean examines Detroit’s compact formation, Carlos Herrera’s seventh clean sheet and the tactical adjustments that limited Tulsa to only one shot on target.

Darren Smith supplied the decisive moment, scoring his 12th goal and reclaiming the USL Championship Golden Boot lead. Was it attractive football? Maybe not. Was it winning football? Absolutely.

The conversation then turns to Loudoun United’s visit to Keyworth Stadium. Loudoun arrives without transferred leading scorer Thor Úlfarsson but still possesses a dangerous young attack. With Tampa Bay and Louisville City looming, Sean and Adam explain why Detroit cannot afford to drop points against another lower-table opponent. Adam predicts a 2-0 City victory, while Sean expects a 3-0 demolition.

The episode closes with Indy Eleven’s historic cold streak, dreams of Detroit shithousing Louisville and Sean’s entirely calm, completely measured reaction to reports connecting Jeff Bezos and private equity with Liverpool.

Garret Komatz breaks down the Detroit Tigers’ 3-0 win over Cleveland, their series victory and a three-game matchup with the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park.

Detroit enters Friday 2.5 games out of first place. A sweep puts the Tigers ahead of Chicago.

Garret also covers the Pistons’ Oct. 20 home opener against Boston.
The Detroit Tigers traded Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize—but they haven’t traded away their chance at October.

Garret Komatz and Adam Hernandez evaluate Scott Harris’ busy trade deadline, the return Detroit received for its starting pitchers and whether moving Skubal to the Dodgers was the correct long-term decision.

Despite sitting below .500, the Tigers completed a strong West Coast trip and remain within striking distance of both the American League Central and a Wild Card berth. Can emerging arms such as Troy Melton and Jackson Jobe help Detroit produce another late-season surge?

The guys also examine the Detroit Lions as training camp gives way to preseason football. Topics include Devin White’s arrival, Kirby Joseph’s injury, the transition to Drew Petzing’s offense, whether Dan Campbell should play his starters during the preseason and what the NFL’s new rivalry uniform could look like.

Then it’s a trip around the rest of Detroit sports:

- Should the Red Wings trade Dylan Larkin as Shawn Horcoff oversees the post–Steve Yzerman front office?

- Should the Pistons prioritize an Ausar Thompson extension while negotiations with Jalen Duren remain unresolved?

- What might Detroit’s future WNBA franchise be called?

- What does Jay Farner’s investment mean for Detroit City FC’s supporter-driven identity?

- After finally winning at FC Tulsa, can Le Rouge secure a home playoff match?

- Could USL promotion and relegation reshape DCFC’s future?

The episode begins with Garret discussing his latest hair donation and recognizing the work of Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan.

Hosted by Garret Komatz and Adam Hernandez.
