Detroit City FC’s 10-Man Win, No. 1 Ranking & Tampa Bay Preview | Make City Make Spence Detroit City FC is No. 1 in the USL Championship power rankings and has secured a home playoff match. Adam Hernandez and Sean Spence break down the back-to-back 1–0 wins over Birmingham and Rhode Island, including Kobe Hernandez-Foster’s penalty, Carlos Herrera’s red card, Carlos Saldaña’s response, and Darren Smith’s winner.

The defense looks ready for the postseason. Adam and Sean discuss why the team has become so difficult to break down, where the attack still needs more goals, and how City might adjust with Saldaña in net against first-place Tampa Bay. They also get into the playoff race, the Keyworth atmosphere, and the debate over supporter smoke before making different picks for Saturday’s match. ⚜️

Was Trajan Langdon kinda savvy with the Jalen Duren deal despite the $200M price tag?

This plus more on the latest edition of the Detroit City Sports Cast.
Detroit City FC went down a man in the 23rd minute, beat Rhode Island anyway, and locked up a home playoff match. So naturally, some Rhode Island fans found time to complain about the smoke at Keyworth. ⚜️

The Tunnel Talk crew gathers in the tunnel and gets into Herrera’s red card, Saldaña stepping in, Darren Smith’s winner, and the late corner-kick confrontation. They debate Haruki Yamazaki’s Black Arrow MVP award, whether City’s defense is strong enough to carry a playoff run, and why the attack still leaves them wanting more.

Then comes the trip to first-place Tampa Bay, the race for playoff position, and the question of Danny Dichio’s future. And yes, the crew has plenty to say about some Rhode Island podcast’s complaints and its response to a Flint water joke.

The full crew is back for a Pistons-focused Detroit City Sports Cast with the 2026–27 season eight days away. Jalen Duren finally has his five-year, $200 million deal, Ausar Thompson has a five-year, $155 million extension, and Detroit has answered its biggest contract questions. Did the Pistons get both deals right?

Adam, Garret, and Matt weigh the arrivals of John Collins, Isaiah Joe, and Taurean Prince against the departures of Isaiah Stewart, Tobias Harris, and Caris LeVert. They talk shooting, defensive depth, Cade Cunningham’s MVP ceiling, and whether a tougher Eastern Conference will make last season’s 60 wins difficult to repeat. Then everyone puts a win total and playoff expectation on the record.

The conversation closes with the WNBA playoffs. The crew gets into the Fever discourse, A’ja Wilson, the league’s growth, and a Finals matchup between the second-year Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream. They make their picks, and they do not all agree. 🏀

The crew got dragged into the tunnel on a Wednesday they were supposed to have off. Red opens with a story about nearly taking leftover Fourth of July poppers on a date, and Alan’s absence becomes a disciplinary matter of questionable legitimacy. Eventually, somebody remembers there are three matches left in Detroit City FC’s regular season.

The crew breaks down the win over Birmingham, debates whether Le Rouge has found its playoff lineup, and asks the uncomfortable question: Will City score enough to survive a postseason match where one conceded goal might end the night? Darren Smith’s pursuit of a club scoring mark enters the conversation, along with several arguments about what those numbers mean.

Then comes the Black Arrow vote. Haruki, Kobe Hernandez, Carlos Herrera, and others make their cases for player of the year before the crew turns to Rhode Island predictions. Shout-outs somehow lead to Chattanooga, territory rights, promotion and relegation, and a grocery-store argument. Standard Tunnel Talk, more or less. ⚜️🎙️

Adam and Garret discuss the Lions through four games, concerns about the roster and performances, and the team’s $60 standing room tickets.

Detroit hockey brings questions about the Red Wings’ start and turmoil off the ice, plus PWHL Detroit’s Western Conference placement and schedule reveal. The conversation also covers Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren’s contracts, the Tigers’ season-ending press conference with Scott Harris and A.J. Hinch, and Detroit City FC’s playoff berth with regular-season matches still ahead.

The Crew gathered in the tunnel again this week... and somehow an unexpected jersey delivery, a shirtless encounter with a stranger and the proposed Channel 4:51 OnlyFans all occurred before anyone remembered this was supposed to be a Detroit City FC podcast.

Eventually, the crew gets down to business with a blind ranking of Detroit City’s English players. Dave Edwardson, Ben Morris, Omar Sinclair, Will Mellors-Blair and Danny Deakin enter the rankings—and almost everyone immediately regrets the decisions being made.

Then it’s time to recap seven points from three matches. Le Rouge defeated Pittsburgh, survived a certified snoozefest against Colorado Springs and escaped Brooklyn with a 3–1 victory. Darren Smith delivered, Callum Montgomery restored Detroit’s lead and Kobe Hernandez-Foster launched an approximately 80-yard wondergoal from another postal district.

The crew examines Danny Dichio’s successful midweek rotation, the substitutes who changed the Brooklyn match and a penalty decision so ridiculous that even a future “VAR-lite” system should be able to overturn it. With City firmly in third place, they also survey the playoff picture and debate whether Pittsburgh, Louisville or Rhode Island would be the least unpleasant first-round opponent.

There are also stories from Detroit City’s charity jersey auctions, the questionable aroma of match-worn kits and predictions for Birmingham Legion’s visit to Keyworth. Two members of the crew predict a sensible 2–0 City win. One predicts 4–0 because restraint has never been a Channel 4:51 value.

Finally, Red shares a powerful account of accompanying a recently released immigrant to an ICE check-in through Strangers No Longer—before the traditional Tunnel Talk shout-outs return the show to its regularly scheduled level of chaos.

Sean Spence and Adam Hernandez break down Detroit City FC’s frustrating 0-0 draw with Colorado Springs and the 3-1 win at Brooklyn that clinched a playoff berth. From an attack struggling to connect to Kobe Hernández-Foster’s outrageous finish from deep inside his own half, there’s plenty to unpack.

The guys discuss Darren Smith finding the net again, Callum Montgomery’s quick answer to Brooklyn’s equalizer, Maxi Rodriguez’s influence, and what a heavily rotated lineup revealed about City’s depth. Then it’s on to Birmingham, the push for a home playoff match, and whether this team has another gear for the postseason.

Plus: disputed penalties spark a debate over VAR and USL officiating, before Sean and Adam turn to Manchester City’s financial-rules case, football’s power structure, and what meaningful punishment should look like.

Make City Make Spence returns with Sean Spence and Adam Hernandez breaking down Detroit City FC's uneven two-match stretch: a flat 1-0 loss at Sacramento followed by a gritty 1-0 victory over Pittsburgh on Kian Williams’ first goal for Le Rouge.

The guys examine why DCFC’s defense, Carlos Herrera and its structured buildup look ready for a playoff run while the attack continues searching for consistent finishing. They also discuss the instant impact of Kian Williams, Alex Dalou and Cheikhou Niang, the club’s improved depth amid a growing injury list, and a pivotal stretch against Colorado Springs and Brooklyn that could secure a postseason berth and strengthen Detroit’s top-four position.
