Skubal Traded, Tigers Still Alive: Lions Camp, Larkin & DCFC | Detroit City Sports Cast The Detroit Tigers traded Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize—but they haven’t traded away their chance at October.

Garret Komatz and Adam Hernandez evaluate Scott Harris’ busy trade deadline, the return Detroit received for its starting pitchers and whether moving Skubal to the Dodgers was the correct long-term decision.

Despite sitting below .500, the Tigers completed a strong West Coast trip and remain within striking distance of both the American League Central and a Wild Card berth. Can emerging arms such as Troy Melton and Jackson Jobe help Detroit produce another late-season surge?

The guys also examine the Detroit Lions as training camp gives way to preseason football. Topics include Devin White’s arrival, Kirby Joseph’s injury, the transition to Drew Petzing’s offense, whether Dan Campbell should play his starters during the preseason and what the NFL’s new rivalry uniform could look like.

Then it’s a trip around the rest of Detroit sports:

- Should the Red Wings trade Dylan Larkin as Shawn Horcoff oversees the post–Steve Yzerman front office?

- Should the Pistons prioritize an Ausar Thompson extension while negotiations with Jalen Duren remain unresolved?

- What might Detroit’s future WNBA franchise be called?

- What does Jay Farner’s investment mean for Detroit City FC’s supporter-driven identity?

- After finally winning at FC Tulsa, can Le Rouge secure a home playoff match?

- Could USL promotion and relegation reshape DCFC’s future?

The episode begins with Garret discussing his latest hair donation and recognizing the work of Maggie’s Wigs 4 Kids of Michigan.

Hosted by Garret Komatz and Adam Hernandez.

Detroit City FC may be playing good football—but is it playing winning football?

Sean Spence and Adam Hernandez examine Le Rouge’s second consecutive match without a victory following a frustrating 2–2 draw against Miami FC. They break down Maxi Rodriguez’s opening goal, Tommy Silva’s late equalizer, the defensive breakdowns that allowed Miami to take the lead and Chisom Egbuchulam’s unsuccessful stoppage-time penalty.

Sean explains why Detroit’s recurring mental lapses are becoming more concerning than its tactics. The guys also discuss Carlos Herrera’s importance in goal, Carlos Saldaña’s difficult performance, Darren Smith’s league scoring drought and the encouraging resurgence of Maxi Rodriguez. With Michael Bryant returning to training, how should Danny Dichio manage one of the deepest DCFC rosters of the club’s professional era?

Attention then turns to a difficult road match against FC Tulsa. Tulsa enters with four consecutive clean sheets, a disciplined five-man defensive structure and an ability to punish opponents in transition. Can Detroit score first and force Tulsa out of its comfort zone—or will another momentary defensive collapse cost Le Rouge valuable points?

Finally, Sean and Adam widen the conversation following Vermont Green’s USL League Two championship. They discuss Flint City Bucks, the USMNT’s disappointing World Cup exit, MLS entering a post–Don Garber era, USL’s proposed promotion-and-relegation system and whether American soccer has finally reached a genuine opportunity for structural reform.

The Crew gathered in the tunnel again this week... and immediately launched into an important discussion about BJ’s memberships. The warehouse club, allegedly.

Once everyone finished behaving like mature adults, the Crew turned its attention to the future AlumniFi Field and debated what its stands should be called. The nominations include legitimate club legends, the Butchers’ Bleachers, the Shakira Stand, the Sex Eagle Stand and several other ideas unlikely to survive their first meeting with the sponsorship department.

There is also soccer to discuss—unfortunately.

The Crew revisits Detroit City FC’s baffling loss to Las Vegas Lights, a match in which Le Rouge created enough chances to win comfortably and converted precisely none of them. Then comes the 2–2 draw in Miami, Tommy Silva’s dramatic late equalizer and Chisom Egbuchunam’s stoppage-time penalty, which traveled toward the goalkeeper with all the urgency of AlumniFi Field’s original construction timeline.

With DCFC heading to Oklahoma, Jam provides the definitive Tunnel Talk guide to Tulsa: visit the Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan museums, admire the Art Deco architecture, find some pasta, drink heavily and try not to end up at another strange house party. The Crew also considers the oppressive heat, Tulsa’s short rest and Jam’s impeccable record of attending DCFC matches there without ever seeing Detroit win.

Plus, live FC Tulsa updates that will be several days old by the time anyone hears them, Ben Morris joining the 100-appearance club, gout, sprained ankles, political shout-outs and another carefully researched episode number pulled directly from thin air.

It’s Tunnel Talk: serious soccer analysis for people smart enough to listen to a more serious podcast—but unwilling to do so.

🏒 Steve Yzerman made his move, but was the timing a coincidence?

Garret Komatz breaks down why Red Wings fans are asking questions and what the decision could mean moving forward.

Detroit City FC was caught sleeping in the opening moments against Las Vegas Lights—and despite controlling much of the match afterward, Le Rouge couldn’t find an equalizer.

Sean Spence and Adam Hernandez break down the costly defensive lapse, the controversial no-call on Ates Diouf, Danny Dichio’s candid post-match assessment and whether Detroit needs more production from its supporting attackers. They also examine Kobe Hernandez-Foster’s role, Carlos Herrera’s value in possession and why DCFC’s tactical structure remains encouraging despite the 1-0 loss.

Then, the guys preview Detroit’s important road match against Miami FC, offer their score predictions and discuss the playoff implications. Plus: Chicharito reportedly joining Athletic Dallas, Oakland Roots’ financial and stadium problems, the structural weaknesses facing the USL and FIFA’s reported effort to consolidate its commercial power.

Detroit City FC controlled much of the match, but Las Vegas Lights FC left Keyworth Stadium with all three points.

On this edition of The Post Game, Adam Hernandez reacts to Le Rouge’s frustrating 1–0 defeat—Detroit’s first home loss of the 2026 USL Championship season. An early defensive mistake gave Las Vegas the breakthrough, while Detroit failed to convert its opportunities despite leading in possession, shots, attempts on target and touches inside the penalty area.

Adam examines the missed chances from Darren Smith, Callum Montgomery and Abdoulaye Diop, Danny Dichio’s candid assessment of the performance and why this match felt painfully familiar to longtime DCFC supporters.

The result was also a missed opportunity in the Eastern Conference race. Losses by Charleston, Louisville and Pittsburgh opened the door for Detroit to strengthen its position and potentially take sole possession of second place—but Le Rouge could not capitalize. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay gained ground at the top of the table.

Was this merely one poor night, or the beginning of another summer slide? Adam explains why it is too early to panic, what Detroit must correct and why the upcoming trip to Miami represents an important response match in the playoff race.

Plus, reaction to the officiating, the sold-out Keyworth crowd and a disappointing showing on national television following the World Cup.

A major leadership change has arrived in Hockeytown.

Garret Komatz reacts to the Detroit Red Wings’ announcement that Steve Yzerman is stepping aside as general manager and executive vice president of hockey operations to become a senior adviser to team owner and governor Chris Ilitch.

Why did the change happen after the NHL Draft and the opening of free agency? Was it a mutual decision, a response to mounting pressure after 10 consecutive seasons without playoff hockey or part of a larger attempt to resolve Dylan Larkin’s trade request?

Garret examines Yzerman’s seven-year run in Detroit, compares the transition to his departure from the Tampa Bay Lightning front office and considers whether the Red Wings will promote an internal candidate such as Kris Draper or Shawn Horcoff—or look outside the organization for new leadership.

The episode also addresses Larkin’s uncertain future, whether a management change could persuade him to remain in Detroit and why Garret believes the captaincy should still change if Larkin returns.

The “Yzerplan” era has reached a crossroads. Who should the Red Wings hire, and can new leadership finally return Detroit to Stanley Cup contention?
