AUDIO: Bobby Valentine said he was ‘joking’ about punching radio host

It hasn’t been a good year to say the least for embattled Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine. The team is horrible, the coaches are miserable, the players are on the verge of a mutiny and now, Valentine is threatening to punch radio hosts in the mouth.

Yesterday during an interview WEEI’s “The Big Show” with Glenn Ordway and Michael Holley, Valentine was asked if he had “checked out” on this season where Valentine responded that he would punch the radio host in the mouth.

WEEI: You do get the impression that maybe you’ve kind of checked out. Have you checked out of this?

BV: What an embarrassing thing to say. You know, if I was there I’d punch you right in the mouth. How’s that sound?

In addition to this, Valentine also referred to the Red Sox season as miserable and managed to throw divisional counterpart Joe Madden under the bus when asked about showing up late for games.

Valentine however told the Associated Press that he was kidding when he said he would punch the host in the mouth…

“Didn’t I go, ’Ha, ha?”’ the embattled Valentine asked before his fourth-place team lost 2-1 to the Seattle Mariners. “I don’t think physical violence is necessary for 60-year-old people.”

After listening to the audio it didn’t seem like Valentine was going off the wall like a lot of other outlets claimed. However it’s probably something you don’t want to say on the air especially given where the team is at this season.

Judge for yourself though, was Bobby V joking?
