After the Texas Rangers acquired Mike Adams from San Diego and Koji Uehara from Baltimore, veteran left-hander Arthur Rhodes became expendable.
Rhodes finished his time with the Rangers sporting a 4.81 ERA in 32 games, however still appears to be effective when facing left-handed hitters. Because of this, the 41-year-old may be a nice pickup for teams looking for a situational lefty.
Rhodes held lefties to a triple-slash of .216/.310/.405 in those 32 appearances though struggled his last few weeks with the Rangers before being DFA’d.
Jason A. Churchill of ESPN names the Minnesota Twins, St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies and the Detroit Tigers as potential suitors for Rhodes.
Even though the Tigers traded away Charlie Furbush and designated David Purcey for assignment, it’s still hard to imagine that they get another situational left-hander with Phil Coke still in the bullpen. Not to mention Arthur Rhodes is 41 years of age.
