If you wanted any indication as to why O.J. Simpson was found innocent in what you’d think was an open and shut murder case almost 21 years ago, here’s further evidence on just how screwed up the LAPD probably is.
According to TMZ, a buried knife was apparently found on the former O.J. Simpson estate which was demolished back in the late 90’s. However this knife wasn’t found today, or yesterday or even last year. It was apparently found ‘year’s ago’ perhaps as far back as 1998 when the house on the premises was torn down.
So why is this just surfacing now?
Well the story is really pretty incredible. What allegedly happened is a construction worker taking part in the demolition of the O.J. Simpson property unearthed a large folding buck knife. The worker who I’m sure found this pretty significant considering where he found the knife then took it to an off-duty LAPD traffic cop that was working security for a movie shoot at a house across the street. However instead of turning the knife into forensics the cop held onto the knife for years.
Fast forward to this past January. The cop in question retires from the LAPD and contacts a friend in the Robbery Homicide Division of the LAPD to get the Department Record number of the Nicole Brown/Ron Goldman murder case. The retired cop allegedly does this so he could have it engraved on a plate to put below the framed knife and hang it on his wall. The friend he questions obviously gets weary and notifies his superiors who then demand the retired cop turn over the knife which he does.
Wow…
Again, this may just shed another glimpse into how backwards the LAPD actually is, which probably was still the case during the original investigation in the early 90’s. Don’t get wrong, O.J. murdered his wife and her friend despite the ruling but if this new development is any indication on how the investigation was originally handled you would have to understand in some sense why a dream team of lawyers could get O.J. off. Especially considering a murder weapon was never found. Perhaps until now.
Anyways, the knife is now being tested for DNA evidence. TMZ also writes that a cop who saw the knife ‘eyeballed’ possible blood residue on the weapon itself which really at this point could be anything. Maybe blood. Maybe rust. Maybe dirt.
