Another Texas choke job: A’s clinch AL West after 12-5 win over Rangers

After yet another Texas Rangers choke job, the Oakland Athletics clinched the AL West with a 12-5 win Wednesday afternoon.

The Rangers enjoyed as much as a 13 game lead in the AL West on June 30th before the A’s clawed their way back eventually propelling themselves into the ALDS.

Texas also had a 5-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth before Josh Hamilton dropped a routine fly ball costing the Rangers two runs and subsequently the game.

After the inning, Rangers manager Ron Washington was seen scolding Hamilton and a brief exchange took place.

Now the A’s will move onto the ALDS (opponent TBD) while the Rangers will be subjected to the one-game elimination Wild Card game against either the Baltimore Orioles or New York Yankees.
