The baseball world is in mourning with shocking news out of Texas that Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs has passed away at the age of 27.
The team confirmed the news via Twitter today:
The Angels are in Arlington to begin a four-game series with the Rangers however tonight’s game has been postponed and will be made up in August. Skaggs last pitched on Saturday against the Athletics which served as his 15th start of the season.
A former 45th overall pick in the supplemental draft back in 2009 by the Angels Skaggs was traded to the Diamondbacks in 2010 in a deal that sent himself along with Joe Saunders, Rafael Rodríguez and Patrick Corbin to Arizona for Dan Haren.
Skaggs made his way back to the Angels in 2013 in a three-team trade that also included the White Sox and Diamondbacks.
Southlake Police also released a statement saying that Skaggs was found unresponsive in his hotel room and pronounced dead at the scene. Foul play is not suspected.
