The Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev fight may have been the fight boxing needed to get boxing back to what it once was before mix martial arts began to dominate the combat sports landscape. Last night’s fight may have done just that for all the wrong and right reasons.
First Andre Ward scored the victory via a unanimous decision to become the new WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion.

However Ward’s victory over Kovalev came with controversy after Ward was knocked down in the second round which you’d think would’ve sealed the deal for Kovalev if the fight had to be decided by the judges (which it obviously did).
It’s no mistaken that Ward had a nice recovery during the bout and made things close in the end. So you can’t fault the judges when it came to scoring the fight tight when it was all said and done. However fans of the sport are calling this a prime example of why human element needs to be taken out.
Needless to say Ward and Kovalev part two is definitely worthy of happening, hopefully sooner rather than later.
