Albert Pujols wasn’t wasting any more time. He was getting No. 500 tonight.
The Angles slugger who was sitting on 498 home runs hit his 499th and 500th tonight off Nationals right-hander Taylor Jordan. 499 came during the first inning by way of a three-run shot while the 500th was a two-run home run in the 5th setting the milestone for Pujols as he became the 26th player in MLB history to accomplish this feat. However Pujols was the first in League history to hit 499 and 500 in the same game while he’s the third youngest (just 3 months past his 34th birthday) to get into the club. Alex Rodriguez and Jimmie Foxx were both 32.
In terms of this season though, Pujols has 8 homers on the year all coming in the past 13 games so he’s already been on quite the tear.
