AC Milan are reportedly entering a new era after ownership initiated sweeping changes throughout the club following what was described as an “unequivocal failure” during the 2025-26 season.
According to reports out of Italy, Milan have dismissed head coach Massimiliano Allegri alongside CEO Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada in a dramatic restructuring of football operations.
The move comes after a disappointing end to the Serie A campaign that saw Milan collapse down the stretch despite spending much of the season near the top of the table and in contention for the Scudetto.
In a reported club statement, ownership said:
“It is now time for change and a comprehensive reorganization of football operations.”
The statement reportedly confirmed the departures of Allegri, Furlani, Tare, and Moncada while thanking each for their service to the Rossoneri.
Reports also state that RedBird Capital founder Gerry Cardinale intends to work closely with former Milan superstar Zlatan Ibrahimović moving forward as the club searches for a new head coach, sporting director, and CEO.
Ibrahimović has already maintained a role within the organization following his retirement from playing and is now expected to hold significant influence in shaping the next phase of Milan’s project.
Milan reportedly viewed this season as a major disappointment after entering the year with expectations of returning to the UEFA Champions League while consistently competing near the top of Serie A.
“For the majority of this season, we were in the top two positions in Serie A, with a credible shot at competing for the Scudetto,” the reported statement read. “The final stretch was completely inconsistent with the performance up to that point, with last night’s disappointing loss in the final game turning the season into an unequivocal failure.”
The Rossoneri reportedly needed only a single point in their final league match to secure a top-four finish and Champions League qualification but instead suffered a damaging 2-1 defeat at home to Cagliari.
That collapse ultimately appears to have triggered one of the most significant internal shakeups at San Siro in recent years.
Allegri oversaw 42 competitive matches this season, recording 22 victories, 10 draws, and 10 defeats during his tenure. While portions of the campaign showed promise, Milan ownership reportedly believed the club failed to meet the expectations set after last season’s disappointment.
“After the disappointment of last year, the mandate ownership set for the Club was to return to the Champions League and to establish a foundation for winning consistently at the top of Serie A,” the statement reportedly said.
Now Milan face one of the most important offseasons in club history.
With leadership positions vacant across football operations and Ibrahimović expected to help guide the rebuild, supporters will now wait to see who arrives to lead the next chapter for one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
