Former Wings’ defenseman Chris Chelios may not be done playing hockey
The three-time Norris trophy winner confirmed to TSN on Friday that he was in negotiations with KHL club Vityaz after Russian-based website SovSports reported Thursday that Chelios’ agent, Tom Reich, had contacted Vityaz general manager and former NHL player Alex Zhamnov to let him know that his services were available.
Former Red Wing Danny Markov currently plays with Vityaz as well as former NHL enforcer Chris Simon.
Although talks between Chelios and Vityaz are on going, Chelios did admit that at his age (48) a deal is unlikely to be reached.
Last season Chelios spent time with the AHL Chicago Wolves and the Atlanta Thrashers failing to get a point in seven games. Currently Chelios is an executive adviser to the general manager with the Detroit Red Wings.
With a professional career that spans all the way back to the mid 80’s, Chelios has 185 goals and 763 assists and is almost a lock for the NHL Hall of Fame.
