Celtics can’t spoil Heat’s banner raising night

On the night that the Miami Heat were being honored for the 2011-12 Championship, it looked as though no one could stop them, not even a revenge minded Celtic team.

With Ray Allen now in the fold, the Heat defeated the Celtics 120-107 to open the 2012-13 campaign.

Dwyane Wade scored 29 points while LeBron James finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds after missing much of the second half with leg cramps.

Allen added 19 points in his first game with the Heat since leaving the Celtics this past offseason via free agency.

Chris Bosh also had 19 points.

Despite the 13 point victory, Boston was able to trim the lead down to four late in the fourth quarter before the champions finally shut the door. This all came while James, the finals and regular season MVP was in the locker room.

Paul Pierce scored 23 points, Rajon Rondo finished with 20 points and 13 assists, and Leandro Barbosa scored 16 for Boston.

Tensions between both teams ran high all game starting with Allen shaking hands with is former team before heading into the game in the first quarter. This included him slapping the shoulder of a non responsive Kevin Garnett who was sitting on the bench.

More fireworks came towards the end of the game when Rondo was called for a flagrant foul against Wade with 16.9 seconds left.
