According to CSN Chicago, the Tigers appear to be interested in 34-year-old reliever Kerry Wood who is reportedly seeking a $4 million dollar deal.

Last season, Wood signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs for $1.5 million dollars. The veteran right hander has expressed interest in returning to Cubs however talks between the two sides have reportedly broken down in recent weeks.

In 2011, Wood went 3-5 with a 3.35 ERA in 55 relief appearances before suffering a torn meniscus in his left knee which needed surgery in October.

The Tigers recently improved their bullpen with the signing of free agent veteran Octavio Dotel this offseason but suffered a loss when it was announced that Al Alburquerque would be lost until at least the All-Star break of this upcoming season.

It’s assumed that if any move is made to get Wood, it would be to replace Alburquerque in the bullpen. That of course is if the Tigers feel  Alburquerque cannot be effective this upcoming season.

Wood has expressed interest in joining a contender this offseason which could play into the Tigers’ favor. What may not play into the Tigers’ favor though is if Wood and his agent are seeking a multi-year deal.

The Reds and Phillies have also been targeting Wood according to reports with Philadelphia showing the strongest interest.
