Report: Penn State could be fined $30-60 million by NCAA

Monday morning Penn State will learn its fate when NCAA president Mark Emmert announces the University’s penalties for their involvement in the Jerry Sandusky child sex scandal.

CBS News reported Sunday morning that the penalties will be “unprecedented” while one source told CBS correspondent Armen Keteyian that they’ve “never seen anything like it before”.

While a “death penalty” isn’t likely to be handed down by the NCAA it is becoming apparent that the school will suffer a significant bowl ban and loss of scholarships. Brett McMurphy of CBS Sports also says that the school could be fined anywhere from $30-60 million dollars.

Despite the punishment not being the so-called “death penalty”, if the expected penalties are handed down it will certainly cripple the Penn State football program for many years to come as current players will most likely jump ship to other universities. Furthermore these suspected punishments could ultimately end up being more devastating to the program than the “death penalty”.
