The Los Angeles Kings finally completed what originally looked to be an improbable run to the Stanley Cup.
Monday night, the Kings finished off the New Jersey Devils 6-1 to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history winning the final series in six games.
Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick was named the Conn Smyth trophy winner recognizing the most valuable player in the playoffs after going 16-4 during the playoffs with 3 shutouts.
Los Angeles also became the first No. 8 seed in either conference to take home the Stanley Cup while LA captain Dustin Brown becomes only the second American born player (behind Derian Hatcher in 1999) to captain his team to a title.
In terms of the game, it fell out of the hands of the Devils pretty quick.
During the early stages of the first period, New Jersey’s Steve Bernier violently checked LA’s Rob Scuderi into the boards earning himself a five-minute major and a game misconduct.
On the ensuring power play, the Los Angeles Kings truly made the Devils pay with three power play goals by way of Dustin Brown, Jeff Carter and Trevor Lewis.
For the Devils, they face plenty of questions this offseason as captain Zach Parise will more than likely enter unrestricted free agency while legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur will ponder retirement.
