Detroit

After a decade anchoring the left side of the Detroit Lions offensive line, Taylor Decker is making one thing clear: he does not want to wear the colors of an NFC North rival.

According to reporting from Pride of Detroit and comments relayed by Detroit Football Network’s Justin Rogers, Decker is strongly against signing with either the Chicago Bears or Green Bay Packers, despite outside speculation linking him to both clubs.

The report adds important context to what has already been one of the most emotional offseasons in recent Lions memory.

Decker, the longest-tenured Lion before his release, initially intended to return for an 11th season in Detroit. That changed after contract discussions with the front office reportedly broke down, including conversations involving a possible pay cut.

Now, even with vacancies at left tackle around the division, Decker appears unwilling to tarnish what he built in Detroit by joining a rival.

According to Rogers’ reporting, Decker feels signing with a division opponent would be “dirty” after investing so much emotionally and physically into one franchise.

That matters in Detroit.

For Lions fans, Decker was more than an offensive lineman. He was one of the faces of the rebuild, surviving the darkest years of the franchise before helping lead Detroit to division titles and playoff football.

He started 140 regular season games for the Lions across 10 seasons and became a locker room leader during the Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell era.

This report also seems to shut down the growing rumors about a reunion with former Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson in Chicago.

From a Detroit perspective, there is something respectable about this.

Even after a difficult exit, Decker still appears committed to protecting his standing with the city and the fan base.

Whether that means retirement, waiting for the right contender outside the division, or simply taking time away from the game remains to be seen.

What is clear is this: Taylor Decker still sees himself as a Lion.
