The Detroit Lions traded veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick. The trade, announced just weeks before the 2025 NFL season, provides the Lions with additional draft capital while the Jaguars gain a seasoned receiver to bolster their offense.

Patrick, 31, joined the Lions in 2024 after spending his earlier career with the Denver Broncos. In Detroit, he played all 17 games, catching 33 passes for 394 yards as a reliable depth option. However, with young talents like Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams leading the receiving corps, and undrafted rookie Isaac TeSlaa pushing for a bigger role, Patrick was projected as the No. 5 receiver for 2025. His one-year, $2.5 million contract made him an attractive trade piece for the Lions’ youth-focused roster rebuild.

For Jacksonville, Patrick adds experience to a receiving group needing depth amid injuries and inconsistency. The former Utah standout, known for his clutch plays, is expected to contribute immediately as the Jaguars prepare for their season opener against the Miami Dolphins on September 7. Fans on both sides expressed mixed emotions, with Lions supporters wishing “Tim the Him” well and Jaguars fans hopeful for his impact in Jacksonville.
