Detroit

So there’s another off-field issue surrounding Lions WR Jameson Williams that’s seemingly more ominous than getting busted for a performance-enhancing substance.

According to WXYZ, Williams was reportedly pulled over and placed in handcuffs by Detroit Police back on October 8 for being in possession of a firearm without a concealed pistol permit. Dashcam and body cam from the incident confirms that Williams was pulled over along with his brother around midnight on October 8. Williams’ brother was driving the car and when questioned by police admitted that there were two guns in the vehicle, one in the back seat and one under the passenger seat where Jamo was originally sitting. The gun in the back seat was registered to Williams’ brother who has a CPL while the seat under the passenger seat was registered to Jameson who doesn’t have a CPL.

The officer who was taking Jamo into customer didn’t seem to know who the Lions wide receiver was Channel 7 notes despite Jameson repeatedly reminding them.

Jamo also mentioned the reason why he has a gun is because he “(lives in) Detroit”…

“I play for the Lions, bro. I’m Jameson Williams,” he said at one point.

Minutes later, he said: “Bro, I play for the Detroit Lions.”

Minutes after that, he said once more: “Bro, I play for the Lions!”

The officer told Williams that his position did not influence whether he would be arrested.

At one point during the stop, Williams’ brother told police that the gun belongs to him. But later on, Williams would admit the gun was his.

“I got the gun for protection,” Williams said. “Do you guys know where I live at? Detroit!”

So at this point, Jameson was on his way to jail. That was until a supervisor was called to the scene and this stuff you simply can’t make up. As reported by Channel 7, the Sergeant who arrived at the scene appeared to be a Lions fan. This suspicion was further corroborated by the bodycam footage, which revealed that the Sergeant’s phone had a Lions logo as its wallpaper and likely knew who Jamo was. After a series of phone calls were made and some conferencing with other supervisors Jsmeson was eventually released with no police report written or an arrest warrant submitted.

Williams’ attorney Todd Flood released a statement denying that his client did anything wrong stating that the driver’s license to carry covers both firearms.

The Lions also released a statement confirming that Williams informed them of the incident immediately and would not comment on the matter “out of respect for the legal process.”

Jamo is currently in the middle of a two-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. He missed last weekend’s game against the Titans and is eligible for reinstatement after next Sunday’s game against the Packers. It’s unclear how this latest incident may affect his timeline to return especially given the Detroit Police Department has submitted a warrant request to the Wayne County Prosecutor while the DPD also continues to investigate internally as to why Jamo wasn’t brought into custody.
