Detroit

AJ Hinch has made one change to the Tigers’ ALDS roster heading into Game One today against the Cleveland Guardians.

Keider Montero will make his return, while Casey Mize will sit out the series.

Mize didn’t make an appearance for Detroit during the Wild Card series against the Astros with his last outing coming back on September 29 against the White Sox where he went 1.1 innings allowing two runs on two hits.

Meanwhile, top prospect Jackson Jobe is in line to get another chance in the postseason as Hinch has opted to keep the 22-year-old on the postseason roster.

Given the Guardian’s bullpen, it is understandable that Hinch opted to keep an additional offensive option instead of adding another arm to the pitching staff. Especially in a best-of-five series, when on the flip you’re going to need an extra starter who has a chance to be effective, something Mize hasn’t proven himself to be throughout the season.
