Tigers extend their lead in the AL Central after 4-2 victory over Cleveland

Doug Fister continues to show that Dave Dombrowski made the correct move in July when the Tigers acquired him from the Seattle Mariners.

Monday, Fister took to the mound for the Tigers out dueling Cleveland’s Ubaldo Jimenez (who coincidently enough was the other pitcher available to the Tigers at the deadline) en route to a 4-2 victory over the Tribe.

Fister was phenomenal too. He ended up going 8 innings giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on only 4 hits while waling 1 and striking out a career high 13.

Jose Valverde came out during the ninth to record his 41st save of the season.

Jimenez wasn’t bad himself. He ended up going 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 8. Jimenez’s only big mistake came in the 4th inning when he gave up a three run home run to former Indian Victor Martinez.

In the end though, Fister was better and continues to be better than the alternatives that were there for the Tigers in July.
