Detroit

Michigan native Jon Glaser did some massive PR for Detroit City FC Thursday night, appearing on the “Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” while immediately promoting the USL Championship side, which may have had its biggest week in Club history. Glaser’s appearance on the “Tonight Show” came on the heels of Detroit City FC scoring an upset over MLS side Houston Dynamo in the Round of 32 of the U.S. Open Cup — an upset win that went to 11 rounds of penalties which ultimately saw DCFC backup keeper Carlos Saldaña.

As far as Glaser’s appearance goes, in addition to DCFC, he also did another huge service to the U.S. Open Cup by simply mentioning it.

If you’re wondering what the U.S. Open Cup is, it’s the oldest and biggest domestic cup in the United States, something that MLS has not only tried to delegitimize but ultimately kill. Just think of the Premier League trying to kill the FA Cup in England. So, in essence, Glaser’s double middle finger to Houston was completely justified, and so fitting considering the culture that comes with Detroit City FC.
