Lester Oliveros completes low risk, high reward trade for Delmon Young

Right-hander Lester Oliveros will be heading to the Minnesota Twins as the player to be named later in the trade that saw Detroit net  former first overall pick Delmon Young on Monday.

Along with Oliveros, the Tigers also sent Single-A pitcher Cole Nelson to Minnesota.

According to Chris Iott of Mlive.com, Oliveros had a 5.63 ERA in nine games for the Tigers this season. He went 1-3 with a 6.43 ERA and five saves in 22 games with Triple-A Toledo and 2-0 with a 0.53 ERA in 10 games in Double-A Erie.

Oliveros will be assigned to Triple-A Rochester for the Twins.

Nelson was 5-11 in 26 games so far this season for Lakeland. He sported a 4.87 ERA and 1.642 WHIP. He was taken by the Tigers in the 10th round of the 2010 Amateur Draft.

With Oliveros and Nelson both heading to Minnesota, the Tigers really didn’t give up a whole lot for Young. It’s a low-risk high reward trade for the Tigers considering both pitchers don’t have very impressive numbers while Young hasn’t lived up to his expectations yet is a former first round pick, is still young at 25 (no pun intended) and still has potential to be effective.
