Two expansion teams coming to the NFL?

Prior to Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Giants and Patriots, NFL commissioner announced that the league isn’t interested in moving any teams. However the league is very interested in adding a team once again in the Los Angeles area.

So with no teams moving, the only solution is expansion correct?

That certainly seems like the case with Goodell however instead adding one team, the league could possibly add two teams to make the divisions and conferences balance out.

Again one of those expansion teams certainly seems like it would be in Los Angeles with the other team possibly being in Los Angeles as well and playing in the same stadium.

Pretty unusual considering the multiple times the NFL has failed in the City of Angels.

But what does this means financially for the two expansion teams and the rest of the NFL?

According to Forbes.com, the rest of the 32 owners in the league could profit very nicely from NFL expansion…

This means the expansion teams would fetch top dollar, likely more than the $1 billion the average NFL team valuation. Bankers put the range between $1 billion and $1.5 billion, depending on location and stadium deal. So if we use the midpoint ($1.3 billion), it means the 32 current owners would pocket about $80 million each.

Adding any expansion team is always a gamble, but two in the same city that has a history of failing could be disastrous.

At least they aren’t talking London expansion… yet.
