The Detroit Tigers are considering using a six-man rotation for at least some of this season as they return to a normal-length schedule with a pitching staff that will likely include some of the team's top prospects. In the midst of a horrific season, the Tigers have finally dropped the ax on executive vice president and general manager Al Avila.

The announcement came Wednesday afternoon as the team currently sits at 43-68 and dead last in the AL Central. This after heading into the season where it was expected they would improve on some of the promising signs they showed last year.

Obviously, there are some questions in terms of timing considering Avila was allowed to run another draft and deadline, however, the team may be looking at a complete front office overhaul from a regime that had its roots planted in the early 2000’s when Dave Dombrowski made his way to Detroit.

In the meantime, Sam Menzin, vice president and assistant general manager, will continue as the day-to-day contact for the team according to the team statement while Chris Ilitch will oversee the search for Avila’s replacement. Great.
