The Tigers continue to discuss Ubaldo Jimenez with the Colorado Rockies. This is according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com.
According to the report, the Rockies are more than likely asking for top pitching prospect Jacob Turner and possibly Rick Porcello.
Now as far as Dodgers pitcher Hiroki Kuroda, Rosenthal is unsure that Kuroda would waive his no trade clause to come to Detroit. This leads the Tigers to Seattle’s Doug Fister which to all accounts has a high price tag as well leaving Dave Dombrowski to look at his other options.
Now according to Bill Ladson of MLB.com, the Tigers have contacted the Washington Nationals about pitcher Jason Marquis.
Now Marquis does come with some upside. He is 8-5 with a 3.95 ERA for the Nats this season after a terrible 2010. He can give a team innings (120 2/3 pitched this year) and doesn’t walk many batters (2.9 per nine innings). However the downside to Marquis is he doesn’t strike out many batters (5.30 per nine) and has never pitched in the American League.
Furthermore, the Washington Post’s Adam Kilgore says that Marquis could find himself on waivers come August so it may benefit the Tigers to just wait on him.
