Northeastern guard Tyson Walker — one of the best mid-major players at this position has decided to commit to Michigan State over the likes of Kansas, Maryland, Miami, and Vanderbilt.
Walker who stands at 6-foot, averaged 18.8 points and 4.8 assists this season while winning the CAA Defensive Player of the Year award. His consistency running the point should provide a boost to Michigan State who struggled this season in large part due to their inconsistencies at the one, especially in their play-in against UCLA last week.
This past year, the Spartans went with Rocket Watts, Foster Loyer, and A.J. Hoggard who were okay but couldn’t provide any kind of stability at the point. All three are eligible to return next season and with incoming freshman Jaden Akins Michigan State should have more options but are currently at 15 scholarship players, two over the NCAA limit. This means either Walker will have to sit out or there will have to be multiple tranfers out of the program.
With all that in mind, it’s still not clear whether Walker will be eligible based on his transfer alone. However, despite the NCAA‘s rules of having to sit out, every single transfer last season was granted immediate eligibility by the NCAA.
