The future of the New York Cosmos seems to be in some serious doubt.
Thursday, Jeff Rueter of The Athletic reported that the Cosmos will go “on hiatus for reasons related to the pandemic.”
Obviously, the pandemic has caused plenty of Clubs around the country to adjust and reevaluate their off-the-field game plans moving forward nor are they the first team in NISA to do so. Cosmos owner Rocco B. Commisso — who is undoubtedly one of the most wealthy owners, not just in NISA but American soccer, in general, continues to put his New York club on the backburner, a common criticism of him stemming from the lack of investment with the roster, stadium, and now assuming the hiatus.
You hope though the Cosmos can return, especially considering how this ended in 2021. New York secured just a single win during the shortened NISA Fall regular season, and went winless during the Fall Tournament in Detroit failing to reach the knockout stage.
