If you want to have a career in the NFL as a QB, don’t go to Ohio State

Ohio State

With Dwayne Haskins being released from the Washington Football Team today, one Twitter user was quick to point out Ohio State’s inability to produce NFL caliber quarterbacks — which may come as a surprise given the program’s undeniable success as a college football team.

One responder essentially implied that there is no big-time program out there that consistently produces successful NFL QB’s which is obviously relative to the argument considering there’s no variable out there to make this determination. Someone, however, was quick to point out NC State‘s apparent success this year and last to get QB’s to the NFL and actually have them play in games.

So what’s the deal then with Ohio State? Who really knows? The Big Ten in general really hasn’t been a hotbed for NFL QB talent over the course of the past several years as Kirk Cousins (Michigan State) has probably been the best in some time. The Conference though can make the claim to producing two of the greatest QB’s to ever step foot on an NFL field in Tom Brady (Michigan) and Drew Brees (Purdue) but that was 20 years ago. Then again Alabama hasn’t really seen QB success crossover into the NFL, especially under the direction of Nick Saban.

When it comes to Ohio State though, the talent at the position is undeniable, even elite in some regard. That talent just hasn’t made the transition to the NFL game.
