A day after it was reported that Matthew Stafford had been placed on the team’s reserved/COVID-19 list, the word now is the Lions starting quarterback has indeed tested positive for the virus.
Stafford’s placement on the list wasn’t 100 percent clear in terms of his health status since a player could land on it if they either tested positive for the coronavirus or had confirmed exposure with something who tested positive for it.
The list is for players who either test positive for the coronavirus or come in close contact with a known infected person. Players who test negative but were in contact with a positive case can return after testing negative twice within a 24-hour span.
Stafford, is probably the most notable player to test positive for the disease and is only the second quarterback around the NFL to land on their team’s respective COVID-19 lists. Jacksonville’s Gardner Minshew also tested positive while Eagles head coach Doug Pederson announced that he also has coronavirus.
Pederson’s diagnosis makes that two NFL head coaches who have tested positive. Sean Peyton of the Saints announced his positive test back in March and has since recovered.
As far as the Lions go, Stafford is the eighth player to land on the team’s COVID-19 list which includes wide receiver Kenny Golladay and tight end T.J. Hockerson.
