#FickellWatch is trending in Michigan as it becomes more and more likely that Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell will be the guy to replace Mark Dantonio in East Lansing.
In fact, according to 247 Sports, Fickell was set to interview with the Spartans Sunday morning with a decision set to come within the next 24-48 hours.
Luke Fickell is reportedly set to interview Sunday morning for the Michigan State job, and his decision on whether he will replace Mark Dantonio as the Spartans’ next head coach should come sooner than later. Fickell “is still believed to be the Spartans’ top candidate” and “should know a decision” for Michigan State within the next 24-48 hours, Brandon Saho of NBC-affiliated television station WLWT in Cincinnati reported Sunday morning.
Like anyone of these situations though, Fickell is staying mum on any involvement with Michigan State saying “I have talked to nobody, and that’s the truth,” Fickell told ESPNU Radio. “Obviously I am very good friends with Mark Dantonio. I’ve stayed in contact with him. I have not communicated with anybody except Mark Dantonio in the last 3-4 weeks from Michigan State. I haven’t been thinking about it, haven’t been focused on it. We have five guys signed for us today. I was thankful I didn’t have to answer any questions because I didn’t talk to anyone.”
Fickell — who is good friends with Mark Dantonio — seems like the logical selection for Michigan State to bring them into the next era after 13 seasons of Coach D. Aside from their friendship, Fickell knows the region after his years with Ohio State and he hates the Wolverines so there’s that.
