Major League outfielder Curtis Granderson is calling it a career after 16-seasons in professional baseball according to a social media post made Friday morning.
Being a Tigers fan myself, this comes as bittersweet considering just how much of a fan-favorite Granderson was in Detroit. When he was shipped out as part of that three-team blockbuster in 2009 that landed the Tigers Max Scherzer, Austin Jackson, Daniel Schlereth, and Phil Coke it was a deal that was undoubtedly won by Detroit but I’m sure left Tigers fans a little teary-eyed seeing Granderson go, especially to a team Yankees.
Nonetheless, Granderson was a pivotal part of that rebirth of baseball in Detroit during the mid-2000’s.
Beyond Detroit, Granderson remained productive and was still producing at the plate even prior to his final season in Miami last year turning in 403 plate appearances while slashing .242/.351/.431 and hitting with 13 home runs during 2018 with the Blue Jays and Brewers.
As far as life after baseball, Granderson commented that his “role in this game is only just getting started”. I’d bet we will be seeing Curtis landing some TV gig in the near future whether it be the MLB Network, FOX, or ESPN.
