According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the Boston Red Sox have narrowed their managerial search down to two candidates in Bobby Valentine and Gene Lamont.
Morosi cites a Major League source who confirms that the Red Sox will announce either Valentine or Lamont as their new manager sometime next week.
Valentine, who is currently an analyst for ESPN was a manager in the Major Leagues for 15 seasons with his last role coming in 2002 with the Mets. Gene Lamont is the current third base coach for the Detroit Tigers and has managed the Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates for four seasons each.
In addition to Valentine and Lamont, the Red Sox also interviewed Philadelphia bench coach Pete Mackanin, Cleveland bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr., Toronto first-base coach Torey Lovullo and Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum.
The Red Sox have conducted an ongoing search for a new manager after the team parted ways with Terry Francona who won two World Series titles with the team in eight seasons.
