Round One
After their trade with Oakland for Khalil Mack last season, the Bears didn’t have a first rounder however I think it may be safe to say at this point that transaction was well worth it for Chicago.
Rounds Two and Three
The Bears finally got themselves into the mix later Friday when they selected Iowa State running back David Montgomery in the third round.
Looking for some type of replacement for Jordan Howard who was traded to the Eagles this offseason, the Bears capitalized on a nice value pick for the former Cyclones back who’s extremely well rounded and should fit in very nice with what the Bears are looking to do offensively next season. Montgomery has the ability to run up the middle, cut to the outside, catch, block and is incredibly elusive.
Rounds Four through Seven
Chicago followed up the Montgomery pick the night before with a bit time steal in Georgia wide-out Riley Ridley in the fourth round.
Ridley is the younger brother of Calvin Ridley who went in the first round to the Atlanta Falcons last season. They also feature a similar skill set and ceiling which is excellent news for the Bears.
The difference though between Riley and Calvin come when you consider what each player was able to do in college and how they transition to the NFL. Calvin has a more prolific collegiate career with Alabama while Riley is a little more of a raw NFL prospect but has a ton of potential.
