John Calipari, college basketball’s highest paid head coach is set to make more with the addition of a little post retirement security when he’s done coaching
According to Seth Davis of The Athletic, Kentucky has offered Calipari essentially a lifetime deal equivalent to a 10-year contract plus the opportunity to be a ‘paid ambassador’ for the school when he retires.
As it stands currently, Calipari made roughly $9.2 million this season on a deal that runs through the 2024 season.
Furthermore, it would seem the leverage he’s generated with his ‘extensive interest’ in the vacant UCLA job has seemed to work in getting him another payday. This despite his Elite Eight exit, and four year Final Four drought.
Still though, in 10-seasons with Kentucky the 60-year-old Calipari has amassed a 305-71 record, four Final Four appearances and one national championship.
