Michigan saw their season come to an end Thursday night with a 63-44 loss to No. 3 Texas Tech in the Sweet 16 from Anaheim California. Iggy Brazdeikis led the way for the Wolverines with 17 points and 13 rebounds as the Wolverines failed to come up with any solutions against the best defense in the country.

The Difference

The Red Raiders defense was suffocating for the Wolverines who saw just five players record a total of 16 field goals the entire game. This includes just one three pointer (1/19) in mop up time as Michigan succumb to Texas Tech’s game plan of allowing nothing down low and contested jumpers from baseline.

Meanwhile, the Wolverines who hold the nations second best defense in the Country didn’t do a bad job as they out rebounded the Red Raiders 33-27 including a 26-24 margin on defense, Michigan however just couldn’t find any penetration to the hoop on the other side of the court.

What makes matters worse, C.J. Baird and Jordan Poole were the only two Wolverine players who made at least half their shots in the loss.

What’s next for Michigan

Michigan is still has plenty to look forward to despite failing to reach the Elite Eight this season. The Wolverines have made the Sweet 16 in three straight seasons and will return the majority of their roster with Charles Matthews being the only departing senior.
