In case you were wondering on the future of Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill, the team looks like they’re moving towards a decision.
According to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the Wings and Blashill are close to an extension that’ll keep the coach in the Motor City beyond this season.
McKenzie further mentioned on NBCSN that Blashill and the team are expected “to get pen to paper and get something done” on a contract extension in the coming days”.
As far as reading into the tea leaves with something like this, it may indicate that current Red Wings general manager Ken Holland is also in line to get some sort of extension with the ability to make a decision like this. And that certainly can be the case to the dismay I’m sure of plenty of Red Wings fans out there who are pining for Steve Yzerman to make a return to Detroit and take over for Holland in the front office. However speaking of Yzerman, according to Jeff Moss of the DSR, rumor is this is a move that was blessed by the Captain himself.
Think what you want about Jeff Moss but he has a knack for getting the dirt on shit like this.
But who knows, as soon as Detroit fans get their hopes up about something ownership usually rips their hearts out and runs it over with a semi.
Anyways, the 45-year-old Blashill has a 130-142-47 record in four seasons with the Red Wings. As far as the playoffs go, Blashill managed to make the postseason his first year with the team but hasn’t been back since.
