The Detroit Tigers are going back on their conformist ways of 2018 and once again will tinker with the size of the D on their home and away caps for the 2019 season.

Via the Detroit News:

The ballclub confirmed Friday that for the 2019 season, it will shrink the size of the Olde English “D” on the team’s official caps, amid significant public outcry after it greatly expanded the size prior to the 2018 season.

The Tigers further added:

“Based on fan input, we made a slight adjustment to the size and positioning of the iconic Olde English ‘D,'” said Ron Colangelo, Tigers vice president for communications. “We love the traditional look and we’re excited for the start of the upcoming season.”

Basically fans thought the large D made the hats look like a cheap gas station knock offs and I couldn’t agree more. However the Tigers in 2018 opted to conform with almost the entirety of the MLB and make the logo larger on the cap to apparently try and appeal to a younger group of fans.

Obviously it didn’t work out and the Tigers are going back on that decision.

Or this was all part of the plan to increase merchandise sales from one season to the next while the product sucks on the field. Who knows though maybe I’m reaching with that one but I for one am glad they’re going back to the smaller D. Now if they could also go back to the longer D on the home uni’s we’ll be all set.
