Joe Torre, MLB executive vice president of baseball operations, told reporters prior to Game 4 of the World Series that the MLB is considering banning alcohol in the clubhouses. This announcement comes in the midst of the Boston Red Sox revelations these past few weeks of alcohol consumption in their clubhouse during their epic September collapse.
According to Sporting News, less than half of the 30 MLB teams allow alcohol consumption in their clubhouses and its common place to see players drinking a beer after games in these settings.
“If we do happen to bar alcohol from the clubhouses, you have to understand the intent of this thing and what it looks like,” Torre said. “We’re role models, or we should be role models for the youngsters and how they behave.”
Torre also said he would look further into the Red Sox’s clubhouse consumption this past season.
