Modano still wondering why

Mike Modano certainly seems happy about coming home and playing for his hometown Detroit Red Wings for what may his grand finale to a hall of fame career. The longtime Dallas Star who was still with the team when they were known as the Minnesota North Stars is the all time leading goal and points leader amongst American Born players. All isn’t settling right for Modano however says Susan Slusser of AOL Fanhouse who says that Mike Modano is still wondering why it ended the way it did with Dallas…
“I didn’t really understand it, and I still don’t to this day, where they don’t find a way to make it work, where I can finish my career as a Star,” Modano told FanHouse. “I don’t know, philosophical differences, the team is different, you have to accept the decision. And then the opportunity with Detroit came along.”
Modano says another thing that intrigued him about coming to Detroit was the way the team treated veterans and the success that veteran players had while here…
“It does seem to be a good fit for a lot of guys grabbing the last two or three years of their career,” Modano said. “Plus, they always have great young talent, too, and that makes things easier for the older guys. I hope that’s still the case.”
Modano’s production has certainly tailed off as age as kicked in yet the Wings and Modano himself are hoping that a chance in scenery and the chance to play for a contender will re-kindle a hall of fame career one last time. Something you really have to appreciate with the Wings is the way they do treat their own. I may sound like a total homer but what Dallas did to Modano is something that you would never see with the Wings. Can you imagine what it would be like if the Wings told Yzerman that they weren’t going to bring him back and were going to let him go? Even when Yzerman did retire you could argue that Modano now has more left in the tank then Yzerman did then. Despite that it is extremely unthinkable.
