- Lynn Henning of the Detroit News believes that the Tigers are still likely to add a veteran arm before training camp rolls around. However Henning does take a look at some of the internal options that present themselves to the Tigers’ front office.
- Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweets that the Tigers have come forward saying that their interest in Cubs right-hander Matt Garza is grossly exaggerated. The Tigers further go on to say that they will not part with any of their prized prospects to land Garza which is pretty much what we’ve heard for the past few weeks.
- The Tigers have been relatively quiet this offseason and MLive.com’s Ian Casselberry believes that the Tigers may be better suited to stand pat and see what happens during Spring Training and into the regular season. A lot of people may forget that this is pretty much the same team that went to the ALCS last season so waiting for the right opportunity may not be a bad idea.
- The Tigers announced that they signed right-hander Chris Bootcheck to a minor league deal and invited him to Spring Training. Bootcheck who hasn’t played in the Majors since 2009 with the Pirates owns a 6.54 ERA with 6.4 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9.
- MLB.com’s Jason Beck the Tigers have also signed Niuman Romero to a minor league deal. The 26-year-old has major league experience with the Indians and Red Sox but spent all of 2011 with four different minor league teams. He posted a .231/.294/.261 line in 273 total plate appearances.
- David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com says that the Tigers have received calls on some of their veterans and will listen to offers. Reliever David Pauley who they received in a trade last season (from Seattle with Doug Fister) may be a trade candidate going forward.
- MLB.com’s Jason Beck says that the Tigers appear to be satisfied with platooning Ryan Raburn and Ramon Santiago at second base. With that said that Tigers still may make a move for a third baseman however a lot of this probably hinges on what happens with Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.
