Lack of offense, untimely penalties and defensive mishaps have been the themes of Detroit’s winless streak that has now reached six games after their 4-1 loss to the Flames Thursday night.

Dan Cleary was the only Wing able to muster some offense has Detroit falls to 5-5-1 after starting out the season 5-0. The last time the Wings lost six straight was back between February 7-17 in 2008.

Despite only scoring five goals in their last five games the Wings once again came out flat falling behind 2-0 before Cleary was able to light the lamp.

Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff made 28 saves for win.

Meanwhile, Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard 18 saves.

On the power play Calgary was 2/4 while Detroit was 1/3.

The Majors Detroit’s Player of the Game: Flames forward Jerome Iginla was able to net a power play and even strength goal (as well as an assist) in the Calgary victory.

The Majors Detroit’s Zero of the Game: The Detroit offense has been terrible as of late and tonight was no different.

A look ahead: Detroit’s next opponent is Anaheim Saturday night from the Joe who currently sit at 5-5-3 in the Pacific division.

The Bottom Line: Everything is pretty obvious right now with the Wings. Consistently being in the box isn’t going to help you generate offense and defensive lapses isn’t going to help you stay in games. It’s still way too early in the season to be worried about this losing streak and they still have more than enough time to get things straightened out. Still though it’s something that needs to be remedied starting Saturday night against Anaheim.
