The Tigers continue their remarkable run to the post season tonight by putting another beat down on the Chicago White Sox 14-4 from U.S. Cellular in Chicago. With tonight’s win the Tigers have now won 10 straight, a feet that hasn’t been accomplished by the organization since 1968. To further rub salt on the rest of the AL Central, all 10 of those win Detroit has accumulated have all come against AL Central Division opponents. Detroit may however love playing the Sox most of all since they’ve put up 32 runs in their last two meetings with the South Siders.
What’s even more amazing about how this team is playing right now is they’re getting contributions from everyone, not just the superstars. For instance Ryan Raburn, a player that was almost run out-of-town a few months ago went 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Oh yeah, he was just a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Tigers third-baseman Brandon Inge also had three hits tonight picking up right where he left off Saturday afternoon when he hit the game winning home run in the bottom of the ninth against Minnesota.
Then, they continue to get the contributions from the superstars as well. Miguel Cabrera continues to hit the cover off the ball as well as Victor Martinez who is arguably the most dangerous hitter in the majors with runners in scoring position.
In the end every player in the Tigers’ lineup had a hit and all but Magglio Ordonez scored a run.
Rick Porcello who entered this game 1-4 with a 7.46 ERA in six career starts against the White Sox, had some trouble in the first inning before settling in and securing his 14th win of the season. This 14th win matches a career high for Porcello who also has a 3.08 ERA in his past four starts after hitting a rough patch in mid-August.
