Michigan head coach Brady Hoke says that he’s named three defensive starters for the upcoming season, however he wasn’t leaving a lot to the imagination when asked who those starters were.
Instead Hoke responded by saying this…
“(Cornerback Troy) Woolfolk’s had a nice camp, I think (nose tackle Mike) Martin’s had a nice camp, (safety Jordan) Kovacs has had a nice camp.”
Now that’s not exactly ground breaking news considering each of those players was a starter last season except for Woolfolk who missed all of last year due to a devastating ankle injury. It can be assumed that Woolfolk would’ve been a starter IF that injury didn’t occur.
Martin is obviously a beast whose a returning all-Big Ten player from last season while Kovacs has shown tremendous consistency and was a starter all of last season.
Although Michigan has nine starters returning in 2011, Hoke says that every position remains undecided.
Here are some more notes from Michigan practice on Thursday…
- Michigan fans better hope Matt Wile wins the kicking job for 2011. I don’t think they can go through another season of going for it on 4 and 10 while in the redzone.
- The National Football Post has named Mike Martin as the fourth best prospect in the Big Ten. Nothing shocking about that…
