The Wings were very quiet year during the NHLโs trade deadline with their only move being made was re-signing goaltender Jimmy Howard to a 2 year contract extension.
But you would classify the Wings as deadline day losers?
James OโBrien of ProHockeyTalk questions why would the Wings NOT make a move considering they arenโt getting any youngerโฆ
While some of these other teams would get a grade ranging from a C- to a big red F, the Red Wings probably would get a flat C or just an โIncomplete.โ Itโs not like they needed to do anything; after all, they remain a very dangerous team and re-signing Howard still stands as one of the dayโs best moves.
That being said, Nicklas Lidstrom and Brian Rafalski arenโt getting any younger and even some of the guys in their โprimeโ years have a lot of mileage for players in their early 30s. Why not swing for the fences while youโre still at full power rather than settling for a walk?
How many times have we heard the Wings are too old remarks and how many straight years have the Wings made the playoffs again?
Iโm just wondering how ANYONE could question Red Wings GM Ken Holland at this point.
